Health And Safety

All of our H&S and Technical documents can be Downloaded

There is no escaping the fact that installing large amounts of heavy equipment, in sometimes difficult surroundings and under almost constant time pressure means that companies like ours have to have Health & Safety at the very top of our agenda, at every level of the company.

We are also aware that we operate in a very specialist niche market, that is poorly understood by many people who have to enforce compliance with Health & Safety legislation. Consequently we strive not only to constantly improve our own standards but to educate and inform those that watch over us.

To help us with these aims, we are involved in the following initiatives:

Emergency Planning College

  • We present (annually) the only training course in the UK for people who specify and inspect temporary structures. Star Events Group is now a College Partner and this course is accredited for CPD. Over 250 delegates have attended so far. For more information or to book places, click here
  • We provide input to the 'Festivals & Mass Gatherings' course that runs 3 or 4 times each year, with each course attracting around 24 participants, mainly from Local Authorities. These courses have been running (with our involvement) since 1994. For more information or to book places, click here

HSE

  • We help represent the interests of members of the PSA at the HSE's Joint Advisory Committee for Entertainment [JACE]. The PSA uses this forum to influence the decision makers that impose rules and regulations on all of us
  • We have been heavily involved in the 'Structures' chapters of the original 'Pop Code' and the current 'Event Safety Guide'
  • We volunteered to take part in the HSE's in-depth research on Work at Height at events, which has now led to the whole industry having authoritative guidance on the correct selection and use of harnesses and associated fall arrest, fall restraint and fall prevention equipment. Advisory Group On Temporary Structures [AGOTS]

  • Roger Barrett has been a member of this organisation since its inception. He chaired AGOTS from 1999 to 2007, during which time the 3rd Edition of 'Temporary Demountable Structures' was produced. This authoritative guidance document is endorsed by HSE, Government departments and LOCOG. Every local authority in the UK has at least one copy. It is published by the Institution of Structural Engineers [IStructE]

Local Government Association

  • We provide presentations on courses run by the LGA on event safety

National Rigging Certificate

  • We were one of the original 3 founders of this scheme and are enthusiastic supporters of its implementation

Our own H&S Committee

  • All of the information we obtain from our work on the initiatives above is disseminated internally through our Health & Safety Committee. This is made up of people from all levels and jobs within the company and reports directly to the board
  • If you have any concerns about our equipment or work methods, you can email all the members of our Health & Safety Committee at Safety@StarEventsGroup.com

All of our products and services are backed up by Health & Safety documentation in addition to full engineering calculations. All of these are available to clients on request. Please contact us if you would like more information on any of these initiatives, or need copies of any of our documents
